Beginnings
Paul was born and raised on a dairy farm in upstate Vermont where horses were an ever- present part of his life. Paul's love for horses developed into a life-long passion that started with Gymkhana, Speed Events, Hunter and Western Pleasure, and 3-Day Eventing. After recognizing that the basic Dressage knowledge was the foundation to clear communication between horse and rider, he developed his method of Equine Body Dynamics, a philosophy and training method that has made him a success in many performance arenas.
Riding philosophy and specialty
Equine Body Dynamics is the direct communication a rider uses to send a clear request to the horse through the specific placement of their body. Paul has expanded upon this technique through years of collecting knowledge from renowned horseman such as Bob and Kay Switser, Kay and Brian Barquin, Kay Blumfeld and clinicians Ray Hunt, Monte Foreman, John Lyons, Jane Savoie, Al Dunning, Clinton Anderson and Chris Cox. Paul currently finds great enjoyment in training Speed Event horses, Breed Hunters, Patterned Disciplined Events and Extreme Cowboy Race participants, as well as Cowboy Mounted Shooting horses.
Because of his wide range of exposure and schooling, Paul delivers a complete conditioning and training program for you and your performance horse. Additionally, his lesson curriculum focuses on equitation and horsemanship. Paul understands that the most important skills in teaching are enthusiasm, recognizing individual needs, clear communication and setting obtainable goals. Paul learned early on that the best way to achieve his success in life was to impart knowledge and the love of horses to those that sought after it. “ My greatest joy is to witness the achievement of my students in ways they never thought possible”.
Experience
Paul established Beaver Creek Equestrian Center in St. Johnsbury Vermont, where he specialized in matching riders, both youth and adults to horses. He honed his skill in re-purposing horses from sale lots and auction houses into new homes or productive second careers. In 1990, he moved the business to Scottsdale, Arizona where he remained for 20 years working with students and horses. He acquired his certification and licensing in Equine Artificial Insemination from the University of Arizona. He developed and operated Mesquite Ranch breeding and Training facility in Chandler, Arizona where he stood AQHA Champion stallion “Zans Diamond Okie”, AQHA stallion “A Cool Looking Dude”AQHA stallion, and APHA stallion “Jet Too Rocket”.
